Question: By the mid-twentieth century, the World Wars, mass desctruction via technology, the Holocaust, and alientation from human purpose via increasing automation gave way to Existential thinking. According to the Existentialists, existence preceeds essence - we simply exist before we ?nd any sort of purpose. Thus, everything we become in life is a result of our active choices, not any sort of 'fate', 'destiny', or 'karma'. There was no system or god to blame if things went bad, yet Existentialists didn't believe that this gave one a free pass to do whatever they wanted. On the contrary, Existentialists felt that we are completely responsible for our choices, and because those choices affected other people, we should be compelled to act justly (in spite of the fact that this is a great burden to place on every single human being). For the Existentialists, life was not meaningless - they believed you make your own meaning, you write your own destiny. In your initial post, explain how you feel about Existentialism...do you agree with it? And, if you disagree with its concepts, explain why.
