We are concerned about carbon content in steel. It has a direct effect on the yield and tensile strength of what is formed in what is called a hot rolled condition directly from the steel production facility. 1010 steel has a yield strength of 180MPa, 1020: 210 MPa, 1040: 290 MPa.

a) Explain what kind of strengthening process used to achieve a rise from 1010 steel to 1040 steel.

b) If these steels were annealed, explain how would steel strength be affected?
