Introduction to Sociology - Case Study

As previously noted, 30 of the total marks in this course are from three case studies that take place throughout the term. Case studies should be completed in a professional manner, typed using 12-point font, and should include a cover page. This is the first of the three case studies.

We have discussed the major theories that we will be using in this course. You should refer to your notes on those theories and your textbook if needed to complete this case study. You will need to open the link and watch the documentary "Killing Us Softly" to complete the case study. We will be showing this documentary in class.

Once you have watched the video, please complete the following:

Start by giving a brief overview of the video as an introduction.

Then, answer the following questions:

1. Explain how two of the sociological theories could be used to understand the "Killing Us Softly" documentary.

2. How much do you think advertising and media affects you? You need to use some of the terms we have discussed so far in class, and in particular the term sociological imagination, in your response. You may comment specifically about the media and advertising referred to in this video or any other media.

That's it - there are just two specific questions to respond to for this case study, but it is expected that you answer them thoroughly, and that you show in your answers that you are able to understand material from the course so far.
