Lead an informative and thought-provoking discussion of a text of your choosing. (60pts)
• Approx 30 minutes in length
• Submit slides through Canvas
• Text should be interesting and personally relevant to you. Avoid texts you have studied in previous classes
Suggested Elements
? Introduction activity (approx 5min)
? Engage classmates with the theme/genre/context of your text
? Might provide some specific information, but the key is stimulating interest
and getting people talking
? Games are good, but avoid quiz apps
? Share the text (approx 10 min)
? Include a link in the chat or share screen to show clips
? Most pieces can't be shared/read completely in the allotted time, so plan
accordingly.
? Remember, classmates are responsible for finishing the piece for the reading reflections. Be nice and don't give them more than 90 minutes of reading/watching
? Present analysis (10-20min)
? Avoid summary!
? Shift focus from "what" to "how" and "why"
? Present analysis of specific choices made by the author/creator of the text, and explain how those stylistic elements contribute to the overall theme of the work
? Present insight from outside sources and/or additional info that deepens
appreciation of the material
? Invite additional comment/interaction from classmates
By the end of the presentation, it should be clear that :
? You understand something about the text that a casual reader/viewer would not
? Your classmates understand how this insight could help their critical
reading/interpretation in general ie. concepts don't just relate to your text, but to
literature/art in general.
Good presentations = you say interesting things.
Great presentations = you get classmates to say interesting things!
