Case: With two days left in the school year a parent comes to visit with a teacher about her son's grade, which is a D. The parent points out that the student, Jimmy, earned a B on the first test, a C on the second test, and a D on the third test, so the whole thing should average out to a C, not a D. The teacher then presents the student's scores from the grade book as shown below. The teacher uses a traditional straight percentage grading method without plusses or minuses.
