Mutations can lead to missing or malformed proteins that can lead to disease. A group of scientists in the United Kingdom have published a paper in the American Journal of Human Genetics stating that the average person has an about 400 defects in his or her genes, including at least a few associated with disease. There are many genetic disorders. But most of us are not affected by genetic disease. Why not? Research and discuss one of the many genetic disorders. Make sure you have not picked one that has already been done by a classmate. Explain how these genetic disorders manifest.
