Mental disorders may be due to genetic factors, injuries, or brain diseases. Psychosocial factors such as psychological, family, and social conditions can also contribute to psychopathology. The stress-vulnerability model is a potential explanation for many mental illnesses, which suggests a combination of inherited susceptibility and environmental or social stressors.
