BACKGROUND: As you progress through your program, you will be asked to collaborate with your classmates. The goal is to provide you opportunities to develop your communication, delegation, and conflict-resolution skills that you can leverage in your chosen career field.

GROUP EXPECTATIONS:

Understand that full participation in groups is required. Timely participation and contributions are required. I grade the group homeworks based on your individual work. Your score is based on your contributions and activity as well as timeliness. It may differ from the rest of the group based on those factors.

As a Group:

A. Check in with your group. Provide the time zone where you are located.

B. Choose a Project Manager/Leader by the first day. The Project Manager will be responsible for submitting the homework by Monday evening.

C. Choose a second person who will be your back-up project manager in case the designated project manager is unable to submit the document by the due date.

D. Set a day and time for everyone to submit their contributions in order for the final draft to be submitted to the group area to receive approval for submission to the instructor.

Task

BACKGROUND: The health care industry, like other industries, is a very competitive environment. As organizational behavior in health care companies evolves, it will be even more important to consider the future use of learning about and applying concepts of organizational behavior as well as the need for continuing education.

As a health care manager in training, you have been learning about the application of motivational strategies as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion practices that are essential for promoting a positive organizational culture. You will practice your skills by reviewing a scenario, brainstorming as part of a task force, and compiling a recommendation with your group.

After a productive year with an Ambulatory Surgery Center, your Director, Jordan, has been tasked with implementing a company-wide policy change that will require all employees to complete a continuing education program on patient safety guidelines. The change will require all employees to complete 2 hours of continuing education each year.

Jordan is pulling together a cross-departmental group of employees to create an implementation plan for this company-wide change. You are now part of the task force to create the plan. As a group, you will need to brainstorm the best way to communicate the change, as well as implement the change with the smoothest transition.

DIRECTIONS: Complete the template attached below. All content must be written in narrative format using proper grammar, spelling and sentence structure. Cover each of the required components listed below in a thorough manner. Each student is required to use at least 1 scholarly source to support their work. The citations and references need to be in APA format. NOTE: I provided a citation/reference generator link in the WRITING RESOURCE content on the course homepage.

A. Discuss the Joint Commission's expectations for healthcare organizations to implement a patient-safety policy and training program. Include at least three safety guidelines that should be covered.

B. Discuss the reasoning for the mandate to have all employees complete the training. Think about what might be at stake if there are adverse events that occur for failing to protect patients.

E. Explain at least two recommendations on the best way to communicate the change throughout the organization.

F. Explain at least two recommendations on the best way to track completion of the program to keep employees accountable to the change.
