Just off the coast of South America there is the Galapagos Islands, made famous by Darwin and home to the famous Darwin Finches. Geographically they are isolated from each other and many different species of animals inhabit the islands.
Question 1. Suppose there is a shipwreck, and two populations of the same species of rabbits arrive on two different islands found within the Galapagos. Suppose that one climate of the island is very hot, and the other climate is much cooler. Explain how might the rabbit populations become adapted to their different environments
Question 2. After several generations of the rabbits living separately from each other, they are transported to the same habitat. Scientists are interested to see if their isolation has caused a change in the species. How would scientists know if the two populations were becoming new species? What form of isolation did these rabbits undergo to cause a possible speciation to occur?
Question 3. Snakes evolved over many generations from ancient reptiles who used to have legs.
a. Using the view of Lamarck and his ideas of evolution explain how Lamarck would have suggested that snakes lost their legs?
b. Using Darwin's point of view and his ideas of evolution explain how Darwin would have suggested that the snakes lost their legs?
It is a very curcial concept to understand how the immune response is mounted against viruses, bacteria, protozoans and helminthes. For an effective immune response, both innate and adaptive immunity should work together.
