Question 1: We've examined different ways in which disability is defined (i.e., academically, policy/legal/administratively, and clinically). Explain how these perspectives on definitions intersect to produce both potentially competingand complementary understandings of disability. Please be sure to clear in your analysis, terms, and perspective, and to justify your responses.

Question 2: The social model is central to the sociological study of disability. It moved the focus away from pathology towards a relational perspective and has been seen as a source of empowerment for disabled people. Some scholars have, however, begun to challenge the model. What dimensions have scholars raised as potentially problematic and what impacts do they have for understanding disability in contemporary society?

Question 3: Segregating disabled people into restrictive institutional or residential care environments continues to be a key social and policy problem despite long-time efforts to curtail the practice. Briefly explain what social and political processes initially drove de-institutionalization and what contemporary policy conflicts jeopardize the basic right to live in the least restrictive environment.

Question 4: Disability rights policies are often called free market bills of rights or forms of handicapitalism. Drawing from this perspective, explain how labour markets and rights legislation interact and the challenges associated with how these policies struggle to improve labour market outcomes among people with disabilities.
