A value that is often quite similar to the isoelectric point for a zwitterion is its isoionic point 26. This is the pH that arises when only the neutral form of zwitterionic compound (HA) is placed into a solution. The isoionic point of a zwitterion can be found by using the same equation we have already derived for a solution for an intermediate form of a polyprotic acid-base system, where we are now specifically looking at the Intermediate form HA.
A. Estimate the isoionic points for the following solutions:
1.5x10^-4 M valine2.0x10^-5 M Glutamic Acid5.5x10^-3 M Lysine2.5x10^-4 M Histidine
B. Determine the isoelectric points for each of the above solutions.
C. How do the isoelectric points in Part B compare with isoionic points from Part A? Explain similarities or differences that you observe in these values.
We electrolyze a solution containing M2O7(3-) for 43.30 hr using a current of 2.685 amp to isolate M(s), which has an atomic weight of 215.22. How many grams of M(s) will be produced if we operate the system at 100% efficiency
A student added calcium ion, ca2+ to an aqueous solution and observed formation of a precipitate. Addition of HNO3 had no effect on the precipitate. What anion wa present in the original solution? Explain your answer
what is the ph of a solution that is 0.100 M in HCl and also 0.125 M in HC2H3O2? What is the concentration of the acetate ion in this solution?
Pre-Lab Assignment- Understanding Activity 3 in this manual and significant figures and uncertainty in measurements in general will help you answer the last two questions
Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) is diprotic acid (Ka1= 8.00x10^-5 and Ka2= 1.60x10^-12). What is the pH of a 0.250M solution of ascorbic acid?
A 13.386 g aliquot of this solution is then titrated with 0.1052 M HCl. It required 30.21 mL of the HCl solution to reach the methyl red endpoint. Calculate the weight percent NH3 in the aqueous waste.
What is the vapor pressure of each of the solution components in the mixture? What is the total pressure above the solution?
A solution is prepared by mixing 75.0 mL of 0.030 M BaCl2 and 250. mL of 0.040 M K2SO4. What are the concentrations of barium and sulfate ions in this solution? Assume only SO42- ions (no HSO4-) are present.
Here is it, Bromine is less electronegative than chlorine, yet methyl bromide and methyl chloride have very similar dipole moments. Why
a solution of lactic acid, HC3H5O3, on a laboratory shelf was undetermined concentration. If the pH of the solution was found to be 2.51, what was the concentration of the lactic acid?
Calculate the molarity and mole fraction of acetone in a 1.25 m solution of acetone (CH3COCH3) in ethanol (C2H5OH). (Density of acetone = 0.788 g/cm3; density of ethanol = 0.789 g/cm3.) Assume that the volumes of acetone and ethanol add. molarity ..
