Case Study: 65-year-old Aboriginal woman, Yarran, who lives in a rural area of Australia. Yarran is widowed and lives with her daughter, son-in-law and 3 grandchildren (ages 5, 7, and 10 years). Yarran is a respected elder in her community and assists in the child rearing of her grandchildren. Yarran has recently been diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and has been prescribed Metformin oral tablets as part of her treatment regime. You are a community nurse who has been living in, and working with the community Aboriginal Health Services for 5 years. Yarran has been referred to you to provide a health education plan, focusing on health promotion, that will support Yarran in the management of her diabetes. Discuss your role, as Yarran's community nurse, in providing health education and health promotion for her health and wellbeing.
