Health Promotion
Aim
The aim of the unit is for you to apply health promotion theories to explain health behaviour and to inform health promotion interventions to change health behaviour.
Learning Outcome 1: Justify why a health promotion intervention is warranted in a selected population.
Learning Outcome 2: Apply behaviour change theories to explain the determinants of a health behaviour in a selected population.
Learning Outcome 3: Apply key theoretical concepts to the development of theory-based strategies for a comprehensive health promotion intervention in a specific population/community.
Literature and Theory Review Workbook
Overview
Task description
You will provide a rationale why a community that you have selected is in need of a health promotion intervention to address a specific risk behaviour of your choosing. You will then apply knowledge of behaviour change theories to explain why people in the chosen population/community do or do not engage in the chosen risk behaviour.
You will be using and completing the electronic workbook that you download form this Canvas site under Assessment 1.
Please refer to the more detailed Assessment description and instructions in the Unit Information Document in "getting Started" on this Canvas site.
This is an authentic assessment because you will be formulating this assessment piece hypothetically working as one of a group of health professionals called to address the health needs of a specific population/community.
Learning outcome
- Justify why a health promotion intervention is warranted in a selected population
- Apply behaviour change theories to explain the determinants of health behaviour in a selected population
What you need to do
The Scenario: You are part of a group of health professionals called to address the health needs of a community in Australia or in your home country. You have convinced the group that primary or secondary prevention is important and that as part of this prevention, the group should understand the determinants of the risk behaviours in the population/community. The group has agreed and has decided to focus on one behaviour to start with. You will need to decide on the behaviour you want to address now.
You must conform with the Unit Coordinator within the first 3 weeks of the semester the population/community you are using and the risk behaviour you will be addressing before proceeding.
