When ethyl phenyl ketone was treated with 1 equiv of Br2/OH-, a rapid reaction ensued. Examination of the product mixture revealed that only about half of the starting material had been consumed and practically no PhCOCHBrCH3 was present. Explain these observations and draw the product that did form in the reaction.
