One mole of ideal gas at 25 degrees is trapped in a cylinder by a piston at 50.0 bar pressure. The piston is released isothermally in three separate stages, first decreasing pressure to 30.0 bar, then to 10.0 bar, and finally to 0.500 bar. Calculate the net work done on the surroundings by these three irreversible expansions. Compare this value with the amount of work that would be done in a reversible isothermal expansion from 50.0 to 0.500 bar at 25.0 degrees.
