The Calfhead stream (flow rate 0.05m3s-1) discharges into the Oxhead river (flow of 3.00 m3.s-1). It is proposed to discharge waste into the Calfhead stream but the EPA requires a stream mixing study be undertaken. A bromide tracer (conservative and not occurring naturally in either stream ) will be introduced into Calfhead stream. The detection limit for bromide is 1 mg.L-1. Calculate how much tracer must be introduced into Calfhead stream so that a detectable concentration is measured in Oxhead river downstream of their junction assuming complete mixing has occurred.
A dilute electrolyte solution is prepared by dissolving iron(lll) chloride in water. It is found to have a freezing point of-1.00C.
Describe how you would construct your target electrochemical cell, including the identities and concentrations of all chemical species, as well as a diagram of the setup.
Why is lactose much more soluble in water than in ethanol?
Convert lb mol CaC2 feed to lb and calculate lb inerts added. The total lb solids in the slurry is then the sum of the Ca(OH)2 plus inerts. In calculating the water added, remember that some is consumed in the reaction.]
What would be the product if D2O were added to a Grignard reagent such as phenylmagnesium bromide? Is this type of product in Grignard
What is the rate constant for a) a zero order reaction, b) a 1st order reaction, c) a 2nd order reaction, and d) a 1/2 order reaction? All concentrations are expressed in molarity
What is the Ksp value for KHT at 10°C, 23.5°C, 35.0°C and 50.0°C?
A sample of nitrogen gas occupies 1.55 L at 27.0 degrees Celsius and 1.00atm. What will the volume be at -100.0 degrees Celsius and the same pressure?
Consider an insulated system containing 150 g of liquid water and 150 g of ice at equilibrium under atmospheric pressure. A total of 22 g of steam at 120±C is admitted to the system.
A 1- flask is filled with 1.20 of argon at 25 . A sample of ethane vapor is added to the same flask until the total pressure is 1.45 .
Using the Boltzmann distribution given below, determine Jmax (quantum number of the most intensely populated rotational state) as a function of temperature. Then find Jmax for CN+ at 298 K and 1100 K.
How does one predict the regiochemistry of the products of aromatic reactions like nitration? What factors are responsible for the product ratios seen in such reactions?
