BIT422 Advanced Database Management Systems - Emirates College of Technology
CLO #1: Explain database management system architecture.
CLO #2: Implement advanced complex queries using Structured Query Language (SQL).
CLO #3: Develop a database application using procedural language PL/SQL.
CLO #4: Design and construct a database and various database objects using views, packages, functions, procedures and triggers.
CLO #5: Design and develop a graphical user interface using forms and reports.
CLO #6: Apply database backup and recovery techniques.
Task 1:
1. Create relational database including at least six tables and implementing the business process for a real-life company. For examples: Supermarket, Hospital, University, Airport, Travel Agency, etc.
2. Insert data in this database with at least four rows in each table.
3. Provide the Oracle Screenshots for each table within the inserted data.
Task 2:
1. Create and run two SQL views, and then display their results using their Oracle results' Screenshots.
2. Create and run three PL/SQL triggers (updating, inserting and deleting), and then display their results using their Oracle results' Screenshots.
Task 3:
1. Create two PL/SQL procedures and two functions solving a business problem inside the company and requiring some calculus of totals, scores, etc.
2. Provide a short narrative description for the goal of each PL/SQL procedure and function before presenting the code.
3. Create PL/SQL package using the procedures and functions of question (1).
4. Describe the role of this package, and then present the code and its results via Oracle Screenshots.
5. Develop a PL/SQL program using the package of question (2).
6. Describe the role of your program before its running, and then display its Oracle results' Screenshots.
Task 4:
Design and develop a graphical user interface, using Oracle forms and reports, for the database management system of your proposed company.
Task 5:
Suggest and discuss some technics useful for your company database backup and recovery.
Task 6: Project Report structure
Edit your project report including at least 20 pages. The latter should contain:
1. The project cover page;
2. Executive summary
3. Table of contents;
4. Introduction;
5. Detail of all project tasks (label them as task 1, task 2 ...etc)
6. Conclusion
7. future work;
8. Bibliography and Netography.
The assessment of your project report will be based on the following criteria:
1. Quality of analysis.
2. Accuracy of concepts/theories used.
3. General organization of the project.
4. Variety of references.
5. Spelling and grammar.
Task 7: Project Presentation
Each group of students should present their work in front of their classmates.
The assessment of your project presentation will be based on the following criteria:
1. As completed sentences not paragraph (short points).
2. Put the steps of your work as clear & brief points 1 2 3 4 ..etc.
3. Don't forget to add all tables & Oracle Screenshots you will created.
4. Notes as short points as more information for the slide & be sure to not repeat what you will write in the slide itself.
5. Accuracy of the presentation.
6. Presentation skills.
7. Quality of discussion of each student in the group.
