ASSIGNMENT:
This assessment measures your ability to explain contributions to positive development from infancy to middle childhood.
Social workers must be familiar with the stages of human development to provide support to individuals of all ages. The early stages of life are critical growing years for humans and require positive contributions to guide healthy development. By understanding an individual's developmental needs, social workers can determine which resources and service interventions might be appropriate for children at each stage. Families with children can seek support resources through social programs. It is the responsibility of social workers to maintain an updated network of available programs in their area that can support individuals with different needs.
Imagine you are a social worker at a local agency that partners with daycares, preschools, elementary schools, and other agencies in the area to provide services to children and their families. The children and families served have minimal knowledge of human development principles, so you have been asked to crt a resource guide that will explain contributions to positive development for children in these age groups.
Select 1 of the following formats for this assessment:
- A resource guide for parents and guardians to reference, or
- A guide of talking points to discuss with parents and guardians
Word guide that explains contributions to positive development in infants, toddlers/children in early childhood, and children in middle childhood. Include the following in your guide for parents and guardians about these 3 developmental stages:
- Summarize the developmental factors to consider for children at each developmental stage. Describe what children need at each stage to support their positive development.
- Describe what an adult guardian would need in order to support their child's positive development at each stage. Summarize the priorities that guardians should have at each stage to make positive contributions to the child's development.
- Identify at least 4 state or local programs available in your area that provide services to support children in early stages of development. List at least 1 program that specializes in each of the 3 developmental stages plus at least 1 program supportive of children with developmental disabilities. Ex how each program could have a positive influence on a child's development.
Support your ideas with research and use developmentally appropriate language.
Cite any sources that you used to support your responses. Include citations for any images that you may use in your guide.
