In the stepwise trihalogenation process of the methyl group in acetophenone the methyl group is initially deprotonated. This deprotonated species which bears a negative charge on the carbon atom is stabilized by resonance. -Please explain how it stabilizes, and show the other contributing resonance form and name this ion.
