Topic: Salmonella Bacteria
Salmonella infection is a common bacterial disease that affects the intestinal tract. The bacteria typically live in animal and animals. Humans become infected most frequently through contaminated water and food. It causes Typhoid fever which is rare in industrialized countries. However, it remains a severe health threat in developing countries with poor sanitation, especially for children.
Typhoid fever spreads through contaminated food and water or close contact with someone infected. Symptoms usually include a high fever, headache, abdominal pain, constipation or diarrhea, chills, and abdominal cramps. Salmonella entering the bloodstream (bacteremia) can infect tissue throughout the body. The urinary system, the tissue surrounding the brain, and the lining of the heart or valve. Most people with typhoid fever feel better within a few days of starting antibiotic treatment, although many may die of complications if not detected and treated early.
