Assignment:

A student incubated a nitrate reduction broth with their unknown bacterium. After 48 hours of growth, the student did not notice a gas bubble in the inverted Durham tube. The student proceeded to add nitrate reagents A and B, and saw a red color. The student concludes their unknown bacterium is negative for nitrate reduction, and that nitrate was still in the tube. Is this student correct, yes or no. If no, explain what was in the tube and if the unknown bacterium was positive or negative nitrate reduction.
