Question- An inorganic cation has an electrophoretic mobility of 4.31?10^-4cm^2s^-1V^-1. This same ion has a diffusion coefficient of 9.6?10^-6cm^2s^-1.

a) If this ion is separated from other cations by capillary electrophoresis with a 50.0 cm long capillary, what is the expected plate count N at an applied voltage of 10,000 V.

b) How does the plate count change if the capillary length is increased to 100 cm? How does that compare to the plate count in chromatography?

c) Under the conditions described above, the electroosmotic flow rate was 0.85 mm s^-1 toward the cathode. If the detector was placed 40 cm from the injection end of the capillary, how long would it take in mi nutes for the analyte cation to reach the detector after the field is applied?
