EQUAL UNDER THE LAW

Should longtime lawful permanent residents be subject to the same grounds of inadmissibility or deportability as non-citizens with no immigration status or those with recently acquired permanent residence? Similarly, should they be eligible for the same forms of relief? For example, a person seeking to adjust status can seek a waiver for certain crimes, including aggravated felonies, while lawful permanent residents, if they are convicted of an aggravated felony, are not eligible for that same waiver. Should this be the case? If not, what should be the alternative (they should all be treated the same, or should some other defining criteria be in place)?
