Case Study:
Like most cities around the world, Singapore is short on land. But with rising awareness over the need to address climate change, the country finds itself facing a daunting new challenge in slashing its carbon emissions.
Measuring just 721 square kilometers, Singapore is half the size of metropolitan London, and is densely populated to boot (with a population of 5.6 million compared with London's nine million). This appears to be an insurmountable problem for the space-constrained country.
However, the combination of a concerted masterplan by the government to embrace solar energy, an audacious commercial project to pipe in renewable energy from Australia, and the ingenious application of technology to reduce energy use in data centers may just help Singapore chart its way forward as a green data center hub.
This is a good start, but power requirements are growing so fast that this contribution will be much less than four percent of Singapore's total 2030 demands. Certainly, more needs to be done if absolute carbon emission is to come down, and Singapore data centers are a prime target due to the disproportionate amount of energy they consume.
The upcoming carbon tax review is to be announced at the Budget 2022 as referenced in the article below.
The individual task:
Study and research on the case study provided above. Write a research report (with the use of diagrams or images if necessary) with words not exceeding 5000 words. In your research report, you are to satisfy the following pointers:
1. Referring to the case study, think and explain about a technological solution that can aid in awareness of carbon emission. Examples could be mobile applications, smart devices, software, etc.
2. Based on the proposed solution mentioned in point 1, choose THREE (3) Interface Types and explain how each type can be applied.
3. Based on the chosen Interface Types mentioned in point 2, generate a Low- Fidelity prototype of your choice.
4. Based on the proposed solution mentioned in point 1, explain in details the possible Interaction Types that the stakeholders will experience. Based on the selected Interaction Types, also explain the kinds of emotional response that stakeholders might experience.
5. There are various techniques you can apply to data gathering. Choose at least TWO (2) suitable technique that can be applied as research for the proposed solution. Provide explanations on how it will be applied, what it's good for, the advantage and disadvantage of the chosen technique.
6. Open-source resources are available to prevent reinventing the wheel. For the proposed solution, research, list and explain at least THREE (3) open-source resources that can aid in the development. You are allowed to use images/illustration to aid in your explanation.
7. Prepare a summarised version of your report in a presentation format.
For all pointers, you are required to relate and reference to the case study. Also, it is recommended that your explanation/illustration are as detailed as possible.
