Sodium azide, a compound containing only sodium and nitrogen is used as a propellent for inflating airbags in some automobiles. A sample of sodium azide was weighed into a crucible. The crucible was covered and heated until onl Na remained. The crucible was then cooled and reweighed. The following data were collected.

mass of crucible and cover, g 28.887
mass of crucible, cover, and soduim azide. g 30.354
mass of crucible, cover, and Na, g 29.406

Determine the empirical formula of sodium azide and write the chemical equation for the formation of Na and N(2) from sodium azide.
