Project 1: Experimental investigation of the effect of laser scan delay time on the physical and mechanical characteristics of aluminium parts printed using Selective Laser Melting technique Selective Laser Melting (SLM) is an additive manufacturing technology enabling building components from metallic powder.

The properties of built components by this technology depends on the SLM process parameters, part build orientation and post-processing. In this project, the student will carry out preliminary literature survey pertaining to the effects of laser scan strategies, followed by extensive experiments to Investigate the effect of laser scan delay time on the density, surface roughness, microstructure, vicrohardness and tensile strength of aluminium parts printed using SLM.
