Question

For one day, A 42-year-old man has been experiencing intermittent stomachache and diarrhea. Today, while in the office, he had constant pain, localized on his right lower abdomen, and it worsened in intensity upon movement. He passed out. He was transported via an ambulance to the nearest hospital. In the ER, vital signs revealed high grade fever, pain on palpation on his right lower abdomen and increased in white blood counts in his lab results. His abdominal CT scan showed a ruptured appendix. He consented to undergo surgical removal of his appendix through an incision in his mid-abdomen. After surgery, he was brought to PACU to recover from anesthesia. However, he had persistent high fever and low blood pressure, so he was shifted to ICU for stabilization. By late morning, he was aided to sit on the bedside chair. The next morning, he was transferred to the surgical ward. He was assisted to safely ambulate, splint his belly incision, do deep breathing and coughing, and progress with his diet. Post-operative period was a success, and he was discharged on day 6.
