OS, a 56 year-old female, has been experiencing increasing breathlessness and fatigue upon exertion for 10 years despite maintaining an active lifestyle. Her primary care physician orders a panel of bloodwork, which yields normal results, and refers OS to a cardiologist when OS also begins experiencing episodes of light headedness. The cardiologist takes a detailed medical history and learns that OS has a paternal medical history of coronary artery disease and a maternal history of electrical (arrythmia) and vascular (aortic aneurysm) concerns. In response to this significant familial history, the cardiologist orders a detailed series of cardiovascular tests, including a 24h Holter monitor for ECG measurement, 24h ambulatory blood pressure (BP) trial, and a cardiac echocardiogram.
