Consider an animal with a Type I curve. What shift in survivorship would you expect if environmental problems such as pollution-related diseases increase in middle age? Provide a diagram illustrating: 1) the original type I curve and 2) the expected survivorship curve due to environmental issues. Explain your reasoning. Add a descriptive title and provide a key.

*Type I curve is characterized by high survivorship until late in life, then high mortality. This curve is strongly convex and is typical of humans in developed countries, a few large animals and some long-lived plant species. Type II curve is exhibited by organisms whose survival rates do not vary with age and is fairly constant. This type of curve is straight and is characteristic of adult birds, rodents, reptiles as well as many perennial plants. Organisms that tend to reproduce in high numbers but let the offspring fend for themselves (r-strategists) generally experience high mortality during the early years. This creates a curve Type III with a high mortality at the beginning which levels off later in life. Organisms that have this type of curve include many fishes, marine invertebrates, many plant species including most trees.
