Things that needs to be covered if we are teaching health care professionals to be mindful of how they are perceived by patients. Or how empathy is key.
Question 1. Social media has eliminated privacy for health care workers. Patients will probably look at your Facebook page before they schedule an appointment.
a. Explain
Question 2. Avoid over scheduling!
a. This shows how over scheduling can effect the communication between patient and healthcare worker.
"If you are feeling overscheduled, you may be rushing through clinical sessions. You may even be (unwittingly) sending the message that you don't have time to interact sufficiently with patients or to solicit feedback from them. In some cases, clinicians may actually be afraid to ask for feedback because they fear the response!"
Question 3. Cultural Differences can matter because they can change the patient's perception. It can also affect communication.
a. Give examples of cultural differences healthcare workers may want to be aware of
b. The importance of accommodating the largest cultural diversity of all.... Disabilities.
i. First, disability culture is not the same as how different cultures treat different disabilities. Instead disability culture is a set of artifacts, beliefs, expressions created by disabled people ourselves to describe our own life experiences. It is not primarily how we are treated, but what we have created. Second, we recognize that disability culture is not the only culture to which most of us belong. We are also members of different nationalities, religions, colors, professional groups, and so on. Disability culture is no more exclusive than any other cultural tag. Third, no matter what the disability or location of the person with the disability we have all encountered oppression because of our disabilities.
