You have two employees who perform the same job. Each receives “Exceeds Requirements” for their annual evaluation. One employee has been with the organization for 10 years and their compensation falls in the third quartile of the salary range for this position. The other employee has been with the organization for 2 years and falls within the first quartile of the salary range. How can you justify giving the newer employee a larger percentage merit increase than the senior employee?
