Assignment:
In Scott et al. (2021) chapter, you read about how "It starts with a vision . . ." (p. 74). In this chapter, the authors provided you with many examples of how regeneration, upstream solutions, diversity promotion, and/or circular systems are actions that individuals can take toward a sustainable world (e.g., ecovillages, companion planting, vermiculture, urban food forestry, aquaponics, slow fashion).
1. Pick an area within the general categories of energy, food, water, material goods that you are unfamiliar with and identify a possible action that an individual could perform to promote a sustainable world. Your focus could be an alternative practice for an existing consumption behavior (e.g., taking the bus, learning how to can produce, buying clothes at a thrift store instead of buying new) or it could be a totally new behavior for you (e.g., planting a community garden, aquaponics, guerilla garden). Describe the action such that someone unfamiliar with it would learn the basics of what is involved with carrying it out and be able to replicate it. Discuss what the implications are for engaging or not (e.g., life cycle sustainability assessment).
2. Describe how the proposed activity fits one or more of the ecological principles or qualities that Scott et al. (2021) recommends for a sustainable world (e.g., regeneration, limits on growth, upstream solutions, diversity, and circular systems - see pp. 79-99). Be sure to name and briefly describe the applicable principle and then explain how it applies to your situation.
