Because the audiences find it to be actually useful, it helps build brand loyalty, helps with SEO by being "relevant content", helps boost Google Analytics metrics like number of users and session duration (if it's good), and can even provide sales and marketing teams with leads or "prospects" if there is some sort of sign-up. Importantly, content marketing's goal is NOT to drive conversions directly.
Native advertising, on the other hand, pretends to be editorial (i.e., unbiased) content, but is actually advertising for a brand by the brand. Its main goal is to drive conversions (or something equally beneficial, like brand awareness).
