The Master Narrative is generally described as the colonially-derived story of events, emphasizing European perspectives. In contrast, the Counter Narrative offers accounts of history from diverse perspectives, with a critical examination of the widely accepted, colonially-derived story. Reading or writing counter-narratives is part of a process of de-colonizing, or dismantling and questioning the histories that are regularly read, repeated, and studied in mainstream education. Drawing on the materials from the second unit of the class (listed below), please give two examples of a Master Narrative and two examples of a Counter Narrative. For your discussion of the Master Narrative note what the Narrative is, and who is sharing/telling it. For your discussion of the Counter Narrative, please note what the Narrative is, who is speaking, and how it is different from the Master Narrative.
