6. The picture below appeared in a newspaper in La Salle, Illinois, in 2020. A state-operated nursing home for veterans in that city experienced a serious COVID-19 outbreak. A photographer for the newspaper stood outside of the nursing home and captured this image of a flag-wrapped body of a veteran being placed into a hearse.
Anytime a newspaper publishes a photo showing a dead body, even if it's completely covered like in this instance, newsroom leaders need to have a discussion about the ethics of running a photo like this.
I'd like you imagine that you are the editor of the La Salle newspaper and your photographer came back to the newsroom with this photograph.
