Assignment:

Please generate a brief response to this discussion post: I noticed some examples of similarities between Ancient Egyptian sacred spaces and Early Christians in the Romanesque era. Specifically I wanted to compare the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut and the Durham Cathedral. The first and most notable thing is the scale. Both buildings are massive and both are made huge to reflect the significance of the subject. The mortuary temple is described as being the best indicator of a Pharaoh, and the cathedral was built at the highest point on the hill and in a strategic location. The second thing is that both were built for the death of the subject. The mortuary temple is intuitive, a temple built to honor and house the remains of the late pharaoh. However, less intuitive is the cathedral, which was built to keep the relics of the late Saint Cuthbert.
