Instructions

Part I: Attending a Cultural Event or Activity

For this assignment, attend, visit, or participate in a cultural activity or event. This is a rather broad concept, but some examples that would work for this assignment include:

A museum
A concert
A play or musical
An art gallery or exhibition
A poetry reading

There are other activities that will work for this. And you don't have to live near a big city to find museums or other activities: check your local paper or look around the town you live in to find something. You have to attend or participate in it during this course, with this assignment in mind (i.e. if you went to a museum or concert last year, that doesn't count). If you aren't sure if an activity will count for this assignment, feel free to email me and ask.

Part II: The Report

After your activity/event, you will write a short report about your experience. Your report should include the following:

An introduction summarizing your experience, including the name, date, and location of the experience
A paragraph describing an aspect of the experience you found especially interesting and why
A paragraph analyzing some aspect of the experience. Relate it to the five approaches to the humanities we have discussed and make sure to support and explain your analysis.
A concluding paragraph explaining the importance, meaning, and/or significance of the event or experience.
Include at the end of the report a link for the event as well as a picture for documentation.

Be mindful when attending an event with other people of appropriate safety precautions, including masking and/or social distancing as necessary. Also remember to dress appropriately for the occasion.

Format: Submit your report as a Word document. The report should be about two pages (about 500 words) in length. If you use any sources to define concepts (or for any other purpose), make sure to cite them using APA or MLA format.
