Question: The Eight Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified to protect citizens from excessive bail, excessive fines, and from cruel and unusual punishment. The view written by Bryan Stevenson is the view that I believe to be correct. The above three are prohibited and protect people convicted of a crime from disproportionate penalties, because the punishment should fit the crime. It is unreasonable to sentence someone to life in prison for traffic violations, or misdemeanors. The Eight Amendment help to prohibit prejudices, racial inequalities, financial bias,and provides some form of fairness that could otherwise not be given. The most debatable and controversial issue is "cruel and unusual punishment. Torture to get confessions, barbaric and inhumane treatments to make people conform are forms of cruel and unusual punishment. The Correctional System is sometimes known for some unethical acts to keep a certain level of control. I believe that discipline and control must be maintained but not at the cost of dehumanization.
