Let's examine this scenario: You are a new manager that has been hired into the IT department of an auto parts distributor. There are front offices that are in one building and the bulk of the company is located across the street in 3 large part warehouses. Each warehouse holds a specific set of parts: import parts, classic parts, and domestic parts. Unfortunately, there are computer network problems and you are brought in a major project to upgrade the computer network because of faulty wiring an equipment. This is impacting warehouse managers (who are stakeholders) and their ability to meet their target numbers.

The previous manager was fired. The department heads are borderline hostile as this project is one month behind schedule and there have been errors, miscommunication and a general lack of communication (which led to the firing of the previous manager). You have 6 modules to finish the work, based on the service level agreement that was in place before you arrived. You are now managing 5 analysts that were very loyal to the previous manager and are resistant to change. It may be questionable to hit the deadline, given the time remaining and the workers you have in place. In short, you are inheriting a mess.

• What is an example of a status report that you will require everyone to fill out for project status?
• How frequently do you require a status report?
• Find examples of status reports that would be appropriate here.
• Research an example of a portal that everyone would have access to and could report on project status. Be sure to include a screen shot of what it may look like.
• Find an example of an email to an employee that notes their poor performance and what options they can take to improve their work.
• email and present it in the discussion as a response to an angry warehouse manager that demands to know what you are going to do about getting this project back on track (and who copies the company president on the email). Carefully consider your responses carefully and keep it professional, search the internet for suggestions on how to respond to upset customers.

This may seem like a bad deal for the new manager, but this is entirely plausible as a scenario. Use all the skills that you have learned in this course to respond and back up your perspective.
