Question: You are contacted by your local police department for assistance with an animal death investigation. A deceased medium sized dog in the woods by a private land owner. Law enforcement obtained verbal consent from the property owner to search the wooded property (1 acre). The police do not know what happened to the dog and they are asking your for assistance. You arrive on scene to assist them with the investigation and recovery of the body. They inform you that they want you to perform a forensic postmortem examination. You briefly examine the dog on scene. It is male, it is an adult, it is approximately 75% burned (right side appears unburnt with white fur and no distinguishing markings observed), and there is an approximately 6 mm in diameter hole in the head. The police mention that a white pit bull type dog recently went missing in the area.
