Question: Summarize and include APA intext citations: Kelley's article examines the "warm-cold" variable in first impressions of people. The study looks at how people's first impressions of others are affected by whether the other person is perceived as warm or cold. The study uses a between-subjects design, with two groups of participants. The first group is shown a picture of a person and told that the person is cold. The second group is shown a picture of the same person and told that the person is warm. The participants are then asked to rate the person on a number of traits. The results showed that the participants in the "cold" group rated the person as significantly more negative on all the traits than the participants in the "warm" group. This suggests that people's first impressions of others are heavily influenced by whether they are perceived as warm or cold. There are a number of potential confounds in this study. First, the participants were only shown a picture of the person, so they may have based their impressions on the person's appearance. Second, the participants were told what to think about the person before they formed their own impressions. This may have biased their impressions. Third, the participants were only asked to rate the person on a number of traits, so they may have been influenced by the traits that were being measured. Finally, the study did not control for the participants' own personal biases. This may have influenced their impressions of the person. Despite these potential confounds, the study provides some evidence that people's first impressions of others are heavily influenced by whether they are perceived as warm or cold. This study used a between-subjects design. I could convert it to a within-subjects design by having each participant rate the person on all the traits after seeing both the "cold" and "warm" versions of the person. I could not convert it to a between-subjects design because there is only one person in the study. ethical considerations: The study did not control for the participants' own personal biases. This may have influenced their impressions of the person.
