Essay
The purpose of essay 2 is to examine your understanding of literature as well as your ability to critically examine a case of change management. When doing so you will apply one given change management framework and one framework of you own choice.
What to do
The assignment is to analyze how the US Federal Communications Commission managed change. What went well? Why did it go well? What went wrong? Why did it go wrong? What could they have done to succeed better? The case study of FCC is written by Desouza et al. and found in Digitalization Cases, pp. 411-428. You should apply Kotter's eight steps of successful change management (Kotter, 1995; Cameron and Green, 2004) as your framework of analysis. However, Kotter's framework has its drawbacks. For example, Cameron and Green (2004) criticize it for not following through change to the end.
Therefore, you should also select a second framework to perform a complementary analysis. You could, for example, choose to analyze the case using Kubler-Ross' process of change and adjustment (Cameron and Green, 2004) or Orlikowski's and Hoffman's Improvisational Model for Managing Change (1997). When choosing the second framework (or model) you need to motivate why you chose it and explain how it complements Kotter's eight steps.
Essay format
You decide the format and the structure of the essay yourself. The maximum number of words are 2000. The essay should include the following:
- Short summary of the FCC case
- Presentation of the two frameworks
