Pulling It All Together In this Discussion you will first challenge yourself to see how well you can apply the different types of hypothesis tests to a given set of data. For the first part of the Discussion, you will choose a data set from the source of datafiles provided in your WileyPLUS program.
In the program, click on the Read, Study, & Practice link, then click on the Data Sets icon at the top. (The Read, Study & Practice link can also be found under Course Resources.)
Pick a data set that is interesting to you, examine the variables provided in the data set, and illustrate one type of hypothesis test that you have learned in the course: one sample t-test, paired t-test, independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, linear regression t-test, or chi square test of independence.
You will need to download the csv file of the data set you choose so you can then run the analysis and include any graphs that are relevant using Excel and/or StatKey (see Live Binder video for help).
For the type of hypothesis test you choose, you will include responses to the following in part A of the Discussion: A. What is the name of the dataset you chose? What is your research question? What is/are the variable(s) of interest? What type of hypothesis test did you run and why? What is the Ho and Ha? Insert image of output and graphs from Excel and/or StatKey. What is the test statistic and p-value? Compare p-value to 0.05 and make your decision. What is the conclusion in context?
For part B in the Discussion, think of your own research you are interested in. Then, include responses to the following: B. From the different types of hypothesis tests covered in the course, which type of test do you think you are more likely to use in your own research and why? What is a possible research question for your own research? What is your research hypothesis? What would the Ho and Ha be for your test? What conclusions do you think you will make?
