- Self-reflection paper: This is an exercise where the writer takes a topic and reflects upon its personal significance. It is written in the first person and should be an exercise where one examines the topic from a personal perspective. Other than writing in the first person and exploring the personal impact of the topic, all other paper writing conventions must be followed.

- Reaction paper: This paper, like your research paper, should be written in the third person. It is more technical than the self-reflection paper, even though both require research and the presentation of facts. In this exercise one is to take a topic, present the opposing viewpoint fairly, and then react to it. One has to be careful and avoid editorializing for that is not the purpose of this paper. It should be as balanced as possible and the reaction should be presented in such a way as to convince the audience.
