Intimate Partner Abuse.

In this module, we will examine the problem of Intimate Partner Abuse, which has always been an issue in society. We will examine that in early history, society had no problems with spouses or boyfriends/girlfriends beating up on each other. Police would be called to a "domestic" and be confronted with a subject who had been struck or beaten by their partner, only to realize that if the officers did not witness it, that in most cases, no arrests could be made. We will examine the dynamics of battering, extent of the problem, and the various theories on intimate partner abuse. In addition, the criminal justice system's response to intimate partner abuse is also discussed. Finally several programs, like the Minneapolis Domestic Violence Experiment are explored.
