Assignment:

Social Problems or what constitutes a Social Problem is not agreed on by everyone! Two different people or groups of people can look at the same Social Issue and explain the cause and effect very differently. This can be due to several different reasons including religious beliefs, political affiliation, family background, social class, race/ethnicity, gender, where they live, where they grew up, etc.

For this reading, you need to examine the issue of homelessness. There are always at least 2 sides to an issue and usually many more - you need to pick 2 different perspectives on the issue of homelessness.

  • Clearly state which 2 sides you researched. Use at least 2 sources for each position, and state your sources
  • Discuss the information you found regarding each position. For example, do they consider the issue a social problem; who/what do they think is responsible for the problem; do they offer any solutions?
  • What do you think are the reasons the people on each side of the issue saw it so differently?
  • Overall, after researching the two viewpoints what do you think?
