One way to approach the broad field of International Development would be to examine the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, as these are key actors in the economic sphere. While there are a number of ways to approach this topic, you could look at the governance structure, mandate, and common practices of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank. How do they make decisions, and how does lending work within their organization. There are a lot of concerns about the harsh conditionalities that they impose on countries seeking assistance (in particular policies of fiscal austerity within the country). Do these institutions aid in helping countries develop or are they more effective at aiding in emergency situations?
