Case: An Ethnographic approach would be useful to examine the experiences of Black male college students diagnosed with a mood disorder. Given that ethnography involves participant observation and case analysis, this is useful for understanding the specific experiences of marginalized individuals (Richards & Morse, 2013). For a long time, psychology has been accused of being ethnocentric, meaning it has been generalized from European/North American cultures, and has assumed that findings are generalizable to other cultures (Elliot et al., 2022). This made me wonder how it has been established those psychological interventions developed in America, like Dialectical Behavior Therapy, are generalizable to other cultures. Psychological research often involves Western ideations of normality, making it critical to include participants from various cultures and ethnicities to accurately understand the implications of therapeutic interventions (Fellner et al., 2020).
