Part 1: Animal Enrichments Proposal
Aims
The first step involves developing an animal enrichment proposal. In this, you will choose the species of interest to you, do some research about the species and consider some issues related to housing animals in zoos. You will suggest two suitable enrichment objects/techniques: one food-related and one non-food-related. This information will be presented using the Proposal Template provided below in the instructions section.
By completing this assessment, you will be able to:
• 1: Identify how behaviour is linked to survival and evolution and the interconnection between genes, environment and behaviour.
• 2: Apply the principles of learning theory to improve welfare and well-being in real-world environments.
• 3: Examine the ethical issues related to research and applications of learning theory to humans and other species.
SPECIES BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
Identifies and summarises key background information relating to the species of choice to provide an overview of this species currently in the wild and why this information is important when working with captive animals.
ENRICHMENT PROPOSALS:
Proposes two enrichment object/techniques (one food-related and one non-food-related) as appropriate for the chosen species and justifies these choices citing any sources used to inform the choice of proposed enrichments.
WRITTEN EXPRESSION AND STRUCTURE:
The written expression in the response of is of high quality (free from spelling, grammar and language errors), and is organised and structured in a logical fashion.
REFERENCING:
Correctly formats references using the APA 7th edition conventions.

b. Meerkats
c. Asian small-clawed otters
d. Servals

3. Read the IUCN Red List report about your species prepared by scientific experts
4. Research enrichment objects or techniques appropriate for your chosen species. You do not need to create a completely new and unique enrichment; however you will need to correctly attribute any enrichment ideas to the person or organisation from which you obtained the idea.
