The purpose of this assignment is to identify and examine how historical and social factors have influenced the development and image of the profession of nursing. Students can select any historical nursing figure or event that impacted the profession of nursing. Include in your examination the image of the nurse at that time in history. Include also a discussion of how nurses are portrayed in the media today compared with the time in history.

Use a NJ State Library search interface such as OVID, Proquest, or EBSCOhost to identify at least two articles or books to use as references in the assignment.

Using a minimum of two scholarly sources, books, or articles,

Introduction. Provide a brief introduction including a description of why you chose this particular person or event.

Literature Review to Support Your Introduction. Use a NJ State Library search interface such as OVID, Proquest, or EBSCOhost to identify at least two articles or books to support the introduction.

Discussion. Analyze how the person or event influenced the image of nursing and the nursing profession. Include in the discussion an examination of the image of the nurse at that time in history. Include also a discussion of how nurses are portrayed in the media today compared with the time of your person or event.

Conclusion. Summarize your observations. Reflect on the premise that every nurse controls the image of nursing and the perception you would like the public to have.
